National Council for Promotion of Sindhi Language (NCPSL), Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has established Sindhi Chair for study and research pertaining to Sindhi Language and Culture. The Chair is housed in School of Translation Studies and Training (SOTST), IGNOU.
 

The Chair was established after MoU was signed on 28 October, 2015. As per the Clause 2 of the MoU, the objective of the Chair is “to facilitate and undertake studies and research work on the subjects related to Sindhi language, literature, culture, and interdisciplinarity as well as in other areas of knowledge considered relevant for the thrust area.” The validity of the MoU is for a period three years. With the approval of the competent authority, the renewal MoU between IGNOU and NCPSL was signed on 2nd November 2018 for further period of three years.

Activities
• Sindhi Chair published ‘Translation of Sindhi Short Stories on Partition’ in Hindi.

• The Sindhi Chair, regularly organizes a commemorative lecture and scholars meet on the occasion ‘Sindhi Language Day’ on 10th April of every year. In 2018, Mrs. Mohini Hingorani, Vice Chairperson of Sindhi Academy, Delhi and Eminent Sindhi Writer Ms. Veena Shringi were the speakers on the occasion.
• The Sindhi Chair also organizes workshops and seminars regularly. Some of them are :

  • 2-Day Young Sindhi Writers’ National Seminar on ‘Sindhi Language and Literature in the Contemporary Age’ on 18-19 December, 2018 in SOTST, IGNOU.
  • 2-Day National Seminar on ‘Translating Sindhi Literature into Hindi’ at Adipur (Gujarat) on 15th & 16th Feb, 2017.
  • 2-Day National Seminar on ‘Sindhi Bhakti Literature’ at Mumbai on 10-11 March, 2017.
  • Two day National Workshop on ‘Promotion of Sindhi Language and Culture : Directions & Approaches’ on April 25-26, 2016 in IGNOU.
  • Two day National Workshop on ‘Translating Sindhi Short Stories’ on February 15-16, 2016 at IGNOU.
  • Two Day National Seminar on ‘Identities in India with Special Reference to Sindhi Society and Culture’ on December 28-29, 2016 at Faizabad, UP.
