Dr. Yasmin

Assistant Director

Dr Yasmin holds a PHD degree on Women Empowerment and Emancipation: A critical examination of Dr. B.R Ambedkar’s social and political Ideas. In 2011, she joined as an Assistant Director in erstwhile Distance Education Council (DEC) of IGNOU, an apex body for promotion and coordination of Open and Distance Education in India. After the dissolution of DEC, she served as an Assistant Director in Distance Education Bureau (DEB) of University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. Before joining DEC she taught Political Science to post graduate students in the University of North Bengal for six years. Throughout this duration she was extensively involved in course designing, developing self learning materials, programming of personal contact programmes and other activities related to ODL.

Her research areas, experience and specialization include in programme evaluation, social justice, gender, inclusiveness, open and distance learning, data mining, analytics, Ambedkar, heritage. She has presented several research papers on these issues in national, international seminars and conferences specifically related to Distance Education such as PCF, ODLAA, ICDE, IDEA. She has published several research papers, articles in national and International Journals on these issues. Her Research paper “Application of Classification Tree Model in Predicting Learner drop out behaviour in Open and Distance Learning” was adjudged the best paper award by the International Journal, ODLAA by Taylor and Francis. Her minor research project “Programme Evaluation and Assessment of Efficiency: A Study of Post Graduate Program through Distance Education Mode at University of North Bengal” was also widely appreciated. She has written more than 150 units in the Self learning material prepared for Post Graduate students of Political Science. She has also organized several workshops on student support services and has been a resource person of these workshops. She has also participated in several Live Interactive Radio Counselling Programme through Gyan Vani FM Radio Station.
