Definition of Admission, Re-Registration

The Academic Council at its 16th meeting held on 28-2-1997 vide item No.16.14.1 defined "Admission" and "Re-Registration" to be followed by the University as under:
i. Admission
When a student seeks registration for a course/programme for the first time, it be called "Admission to a Course/Programme".
ii. Re-registration
When a student on rolls applies for continuing his studies for the next semester / session, it be called "re-registration".
IGNOU offers a wide range of programmes at doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate degree, diploma and certificate programmes in two admission cycles. viz, July and January cycles. The admissions are made in various programmes of the University subject to fulfillment of minimum eligibility. There are two modes of admission in IGNOU viz. direct admission and admissions to selected programmes with entrance test e.g. Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), Research Degree Programme, etc. The Prospectus for both types of programmes t is available on the IGNOU website at www.ignou.ac.in/
