About the Programme
Handmade paper is being explored as a desirable alternative to plastics and other synthetic materials. There are only a few work units spread across the country. This programme focuses on aims to bring this industry into focus and making it popular.
Objectives of the Programme
In the North-East region, as elsewhere, unemployment is a pressing issue. Various avenues for self-employment of youth need to be explored. Handmade paper industries can be set up by entrepreneurs after they obtain training in various technical skills, managerial and administrative techniques. The industry can also employ people equipped with appropriate skills.
There is a demand for handmade paper items from the neighbouring countries of the North East and therefore it appears that there is export potential too.
