Online Programme Delivery Strategy

IGNOU has been striving to provide high quality education to all thus making it accessible to everyone and from anywhere. In fact it has over its long journey had provided education at doorstep. It has approached the task at two levels: i) as an institution, and ii) as a system-leader. As an institution the University is committed to quality and excellence in all its activities. As a system leader, the University envisages a proactive role for itself by sharing professional capabilities and resources, to maintain and coordinate standards of Distance Education in the country.
IGNOU offered three online programmes from January 2020 with UGC approval. IGNOU has been provided exemption from the University Grants Commission (Online Courses or Programmes) Regulations, 2018 vide Gazette Notification CG-DL-E-17012020-215525 dated 17th January,2020. 
At present (since July 2020) IGNOU is offering 15 online programmes in various disciplines at various levels. These are:

The Online programmes are designed on the four quadrant approach which tries to provide comprehensive learning experience to the learners. The first quadrant is the E-Tutorial which includes predominantly videos developed for the programme. IGNOU also conducts live sessions for the online programme learners. The second quadrant is the e-content which is the supplementary text as the reading material for concept attainment and concept clarification. The third quadrant is the Discussion Forum which is interactive and simulates communication of a classroom between peer to peer and learner to teacher. The fourth quadrant is the Assessment. Formative Assessment is integrated through the LMS and the Summative Assessment is done through the National Testing Agency (NTA), Govt. of India across the major cities.   The examination mode would be online which could be Multiple Choice or Pen & Paper based, which are specific to the programme curriculum and would be decided by IGNOU from time to time. 
The Online Courses are available on the SWAYAM Portal  and also at IGNOU Learning Management System (LMS). It is dedicated portal for IGNOU Online Programme using open-source technology with latest architecture, developed by COE. The purpose of this portal is to provide the complete information to the learners about Online Programmes being offered by IGNOU. The portal also provides Chatbot facility for prospective learners.
