  • The IIVET Shillong has taken initiatives in the areas of tourist guide and citizen journalism. 225 student are registered in guwahati for these short term Programme .this is also being taken up at the national level.
  • IIVET has set up a career as a member of the Indian welding society , new Delhi. to understand vocational training programmes in the north east, IIVET has taken initiative to address the issues of prior knowledge and certification in the areas of Welding Society.
  • IIVET has set up a Career Guidance Cell in Handique Girls College, Guwahati. the Cell is Functional and over 140 students Citizen journalism and tourist Guide are attached to it.
  • NECRD is in the process of developing pre- Ph.D prog. for Doctorate who have completed their Degrees without course work this course is one of the first of this kind india.
  • Offering a variety of academic programmes at the Certificate, Diploma, Graduate, Post-Graduate and Doctoral levels.
  • Offering highly specialized programmes in the areas of Public Policy, Community Cardiology, Health Care, Hospital Waste Management, Food Safety, Agriculture, Indigenous Knowledge and Technology etc. in the Region.
  • Offering programmes in Value Added Products in Fruits and Vegetables and in Dairy Farming which are designed to cater to the workforce engaged in agriculture in the region.
  • Developing awareness modules in computer literacy, environment and disabilities relevant to the region.
  • Launch and implementation of Computer Literacy Programme in the North Eastern States as a collaborative initiative with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology through the Community Information Centers. Two hundred eighteen Community Information Centres are being utilized for the purpose. Till date Thousands of students have been trained in this programme.
  • Conduct of short-term training programmes under the aegis of the Regional Centers for the skill development, skill upgradation and self-reliance of farmers, youth and entrepreneurs of the region .
  • Conducting a Certificate Programme in Motorcycle Repair and Maintenance under the IGNOU-Industry Partnership at the Tool Room and Training Centre of the Ministry of MSME at Guwahati in coordination with School of Engineering and in collaboration with M/s Hero Honda Motorcycles Ltd for the training and certification of skills of illiterate/unskilled/semi-skilled workers of the region.
  • Launch of Value-added tailor-made courses such as Beekeeping, Poultry Farming, Handmade Paper Making, Interior Design, Diabetes Care Education and Manufacture of Leather Goods to create employable human resources in the region.
  • Establishment of Programme Study Centres at Block Resource Centres for training the untrained teachers, sponsored by State Governments, through the Certificate in Primary Education (CPE) and Certificate in Elementary Teacher Education (CETE) programmes. Thousands of untrained teachers are being trained through these programmes.
  • Translation of Self Learning Materials into local languages.
  • Accreditation and certification of Indigenous Knowledge and skills under Guru Shishya Parampara Scheme of Ministry of Culture
  • Continuous in-service training to School teachers of the region.
  • Offering grant-in-aid to individual /school/institute/NGO for undertaking Major and Minor Research Projects.
  • Undertaking research activities in coordination with Schools of Studies and in collaboration with other research Institutes .
  • Conducting Training Programmes on Research Methodology for Research Training Associates (RTA) and other research scholars of the region.
