Web-Support Portal (Mobile Enabled) for CHCWM Programme
The web support portal of Certificate in Health Care Waste Management Programme of School of Health Science, IGNOU is an innovative intervention of NCIDE to revolutionise the learning experience of the distance learner by captivating and empowering the so called isolated learners to successes. This programme is targeted at the professionals and paraprofessionals working in the health care, like doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians and sanitary inspectors. Multiple Media Enabled Computer Literacy Programme
As a part of the North East Educational Development activity, the Computer Literacy Programme (CLP) was launched from November 1, 2002 in most of the states of North East. This was launched through select Study Centres of IGNOU and Community Information Centres (CICs) of Ministry of Communications and Information Technology spread across the region on pilot basis. As a collaborative initiative, IGNOU had signed an MOU with Ministry of Communications and Information Technology for the utilization of the Community Information Centres of North East established by the Ministry. Tablet/Mobile Enabled Interactive Multimedia Applications for Certificate in Arabic Language (CAL) Programme
The importance of teaching and learning of any foreign language has long been recognized and acknowledged in cultural diversity of India. The major components of learning any foreign language are reading, writing, speaking (communication), and listening skills for various levels (beginners to advanced). Unlike many academic disciplines, learning a language is challenging from the word go. From the beginning, language learners face unrecognizable letters and words, unfamiliar sounds, translations, explanations based on grammar, etc. For more information click here
 
Virtual Lab Management System
A prototype of the virtual laboratory known as VlabMS which was first of its kind in India was designed and developed with the available resources in 2006-2007. This was further extended to hosting OER based lab resources which was accessible to any interested learner. Later in 2010 the web-enabled module of the computer Literacy programmes consisting of about 800 simulations, demonstrations and evaluation for the learners to experience hands on training of the lab component of the Computer Literacy Programme were integrated in the VlabMS. Mobile Enabled Interactive Assessment and Identification of Treatment Using Chartbook for Health Workers
The mobile enabled chartbook application enable the health workers to assess, classify, identify treatment, treat the young infant or child, counsel the mother and refer growth charts on their mobile devices through a simple and algorithm based scheme. Mobile component of the IMNCI Package for health workers which include interactive chartbook for handheld basic multimedia, JAVA enabled mobile handsets. For more information click here
 
Science@Mobile – An Innovative Scheme of Science Popularization
In order to exploit the potential of the fast spreading mobile technology in the country, the National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education (NCIDE) in IGNOU in collaboration with Vigyan Prasar (Department of Science and Technology) Govt. of India designed and developed “Science@Mobile – an innovative scheme of science popularisation through mobile during 2011-2012. MECLE : Mobile Enabled Collaborative Learning Environment
New and innovative information and communication tools have created a revolution in the delivery mechanism of the educational system in particular the distance education system globally. A survey was conducted by the NCIDE to understand the learners’ preferences and choices for using mobile as a learning tool. On the basis of the survey conducted and in pace with the latest pedagogic and technologic developments in mobile learning at NICDE we have designed several educational applications for the learners. E-Learning Portal for Integrated Management of National and Childhood Illness
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is implementing the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI) as a key child health strategy within the National Reproductive Child Health Programmes. Bilingual IDVD Enabled IMNCI Training Package for Health Workers
In India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare approved the implementation of Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI) strategy that aim to improve practices in health facilities, in the primary healthcare system and at home. SOHS and NCIDE under the UNICEF funded project “Development of Bilingual IDVD enabled and Mobile Supported IMNCI Training package for Health Workers” introduced a long-term solution for training the health workers for the IMNCI component. Interactive Multimedia and Tablet Enabled IMNCI Package for Health Professionals
Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI), which was introduced in 2003, is a crucial component of this PG Diploma and it contains very significant practical training. NCIDE and SOHS collaborated towards integrating the IMNCI training component (except bed side teaching) into a digital interactive multimedia package for all health professionals who are involved in the care of children. Audiobooks
Audiobooks are extremely useful to the distance learner as s/he can learn while on the move. As of now there are no audiobooks available for distance learners. NCIDE in collaboration with the faculty members of several schools of IGNOU has conceptualized, designed and developed prototypes of audiobooks for the distance learners. The pedagogy of distance learning has been followed while developing these audiobooks.For more information click here
 
IGNOU Online : An e-Learning Platform
IGNOU offers around 150 programmes at different levels through a network of regional centres, and several study centres/tele-learning centres spread all over the country and overseas. During last few years, IGNOU has also developed an online system of education for the distance learners who would like to perform their studies by using internet based technologies. Augmented Reality in the Form of QR Code Developed for the CHCWM
With the advancement in Mobile Technologies we observe that Augmented Reality (AR) and Mobile Augmented Reality have made a great progress. For example, smart phone with camera, processors and sensors is accessible to people easily. In our context, in the Self Learning material (SLM) of the CHCWM programme of SOHS, IGNOU, QR codes were embedded for all the components where virtual information was required to integrate with the information available in the SLM. Web Enabled Academic Support
Recently, NCIDE has initiated a new and innovative scheme of providing Web Enabled Academic Support to the distance learner. To begin with this scheme is being experimented for seven programmes of different Schools having low/limited enrolment. In this scheme, Programme Coordinators are so empowered and trained that they can provide different kinds of academic and administrative support in their learners by using freely available tools. A training workshop was also organized in which the participants not only ideated on providing different solutions to the problems faced by the learners at various stages of their study with the University but also experimented on realizing their ideas into prototypes. For more information click here
