Prof. Heena K. Bijli

Professor

Prof. Heena K. Bijli is currently Professor in the School of Continuing Education, at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. She has held the position of Director, School of Continuing Education, IGNOU and specializes in the area of Community Resource Management and Extension. Her academic career of over 24 years has spanned across universities like the Aligarh Muslim University, University of Delhi, the SNDT Women’s University, S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, and Jamia Millia Islamia. Prof. Bijli has been honored for outstanding contribution to her field by the University of Delhi.  She has authored a book titled Women and Health: Intersectional Issues and Social Constraints that centre-stages the issue of maternal health concerns of the most marginalized women in India. 

Prof. Bijli is an active resource person for several institutes of higher learning and research, in core areas like Open and Distance Learning for Inclusive Education, Communication for Development (C4D), Non-formal Education, Gender and Technology, Gender and Health, Corporate Social Responsibility, Resource Management, Event Management, Social Entrepreneurship, Extension Education, and Sustainable Livelihoods for Development. She has been a panelist / lead speaker / chief guest / key speaker in workshops, webinars, seminars, round-tables and summits.

Prof. Bijli has contributed to the development of several Academic Programmes of Study, and developed 04 skill based MOOCs (Massive Open and Online Courses) for IGNOU on Event Management, and Creative Communication & Extension for Sustainable Development that are hosted on the SWAYAM platform of the Ministry of Education. Prof. Bijli has successfully launched Diploma in Event Management, a skill-based programme in IGNOU which is the first of its kind, launched through the Open and Distance Learning mode in India. She is a member of the Educational Advisory Committee of the Event and Entertainment Management Association of India and an active member of the Innovations Club hosted by the National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education. She has also launched a PhD programme in Community Resource Management and Extension at IGNOU and has developed curriculum at the graduate, post graduate levels and for PhD programmes in different universities. She has delivered several educational programmes through Gyan Darshan (television) and interactive radio counselling through Gyan Vani (FM radio). She has been coordinating the recording and relay of different educational programmes of her School in the areas of community resource management and extension, rural development, and child development, through the SWAYAM Prabha television Channel 18.

Prof. Bijli has many research contributions and publications to her credit in the areas of Gender and Technology, Extension, Nutrition Extension, Panchayati Raj, Non-Formal Education, Event Management, Open and Distance Learning, and Curriculum Development for Open and Distance Learning, amongst many others. She is a member of academic advisory boards, committees and statutory bodies of several universities.
