Doctor of Philosophy Computer Science (Ph.D CS)

Minimum Duration: 2 Years
Maximum Duration: 5 Years
Course Fee: Rs. 14,000

Eligibility:

 
Category ‘A’:
 
M.Tech/M.Phil degree in Computer Science/Information Technology with 55% (50% for SC/ST/PH candidates).
 
Category ‘A’ students will be required to qualify the entrance test conducted by IGNOU along with category B students.
 
Exemption from Entrance Test under Category ‘A’:
 
The candidates of Category ‘A’ who fulfils any one of the following two requirements will be exempted from the appearing from entrance test:
 
  • A Faculty working in the Computer Science/Computer Engineering/IT department of central or state University or Government Degree Engineering college having three years of teaching experience as permanent faculty. OR
  • Any student who has qualified UGC NET/GATE examination in ComputerScience will be exempted from the entrance test.
 
Category ‘B’:
 
a. Masters degree (atleast 2 years duration) in Computer Science/ IT (Information Technology) from any recognized University with at least 60% marks (55% for SC/ ST/PH candidates).
                                                                                               OR
b. The candidates having Master’s degree in Mathematics/Physics/Electrical / Electronics/Operation Research/Statistics with minimum 60% marks (55% for SC/ ST/PH candidates).
                                                                                                OR
c. B.Tech/B.E in Computer Science / Information Technology with 70% marks (65% marks for SC/ST/PH candidates) with 5 years experience either of teaching or in the software industry.
 
Category ‘B’ students will be required to qualify the entrance test conducted by IGNOU along with Category ‘A’ students.
 
Exemption from Entrance Test under Category ‘B’:
 
  • Any student in Category B who has qualified UGC NET/GATE examination in Computer Science will be exempted from the entrance test.
 
Presentation/Interview before Doctoral Committee:
 
Candidate qualified based on the criteria given under Category A and B above will be short listed based on their research proposals. The short listed candidates will be required
to present their research proposals before the Doctoral Committee who will decide the selection of the candidate for the Ph.D programme.

PhD Programme in Computer Science was launched in January 2009. The objective of the Programme is to inculcate the spirit of innovation and research among the qualified faculty, scientists, engineers etc. required for the expansion of fundamental knowledge and technological innovation through research and development, as well as to meet the requirement of institutions of higher learning.
 

 

Course work for Ph.D students of category A & B :

 

Category A students are required to do 18 credits course work compulsorily and   
Category B candidates are required to undergo course work of 34 credits as per the details given below.
 
For Category ‘A’

2)      Analysis and Design of Algorithms :           4 Credits – Compulsory Course
 
3)      Topics in Mathematical Science     :           4 Credits – Compulsory Course
 
4)      Two elective courses
