Prof. Annu J Thomas
Director
Prof Annu J Thomas, a gold medallist from Delhi University, has a distinguished academic record. Her research focused on design, development and evaluation of self-instructional multiple media packages with women distance learners.
She completed an approved course of study in ‘Women, Men and Development’ from the renowned Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK. With 324 years teaching experience spanning both distance and conventional universities, she has made several notable contributions in designing, developing and delivering face-to-face as well as blended and online courses and programmes.
She played a key role in the formulation of a collaborative IGNOU-Ministry of Human Resource Development project on women's empowerment through distance education and was a member of the Project Advisory Team. She coordinated An IGNOU-UNESCO, Paris project on Design and Development of a Multimedia Gender Training Kit. The Kit has been well received by both national and international agencies. She has also co-organised IGNOU workshops in association with Commonwealth of Learning (COL). As principal coordinator and nodal officer, she has coordinated design and development of online courses for Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in association with World Health Organisation.
She coordinates several distance learning courses forming part of certificate and diploma level distance learning programmes in women's empowerment and development offered by IGNOU. She is currently coordinating the MA programmes in Gender and Development Studies (jointly with Prof. Savita Singh) on offer by IGNOU. She has served on Gender Justice Committees in the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Archaeological Survey of India. She has served on several high level Task Forces and Committees. With several publications to her credit, she specializes in Women's Education; Gender, Nutrition and Health; Gender & Science; Gender, Microfinance and Entrepreneurship.
