Dr. Soniya
Assistant Professor (Sanskrit)
Dr. Soniya earned her education in Sanskrit following traditional methods of studying in a residential Gurukul environment where she imbibed the traditional Vedic culture apart from studying and understanding Sanskrit. She also taught in the same environment to get trained as a teacher having uncontaminated values and traditions.
Dr. Soniya’s meritorious journey began with securing a gold medal in B.A. (Shastri) in 2006 from Kanya Gurukul, Chotipura, Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Then she passed her M.A. (Sanskrit) in 2008 with second position in M.J.P. University, Rohilkhand. She qualified for UGC-NET in 2008 and completed Ph.D. from University of Delhi in 2014 on the topic "?????? ?? ???????????????? ?????????? ?? ????????????? ??????" (A Linguistics study of the verbal forms of the tenth Mandal of the Rigveda). Her research is a morphological, phonological and semantic study of the roots and their forms found in the10th chapter of Rigveda and their statistical analysis. In addition, she did a comparative study of the roots. Although she has a background in Sanskrit literature, her principal area of interest, as well as her research, has been in the field of Sanskrit linguistics and Vedic Studies.
Before joining IGNOU she has wide experience of teaching Assistant Professor in Bhagini Nivedita College of Delhi University in 2011 and later worked in Hindu College, University of Delhi from 2014 to 2021.
She has written a book titled “???????? ????????: ??????????? ????? (??? ???? ?? ??????? ???) published by Vidyanidhi Publication, Delhi in 2017. She has also written a chapter in the book titled “????? ??? ??? ??? ???????” published by Vidyanidhi Publication in 2018. She has presented papers and delivered lectures in 18 national and international conferences/workshops and webinars. She has also six research papers to her credit.
She is presently a Principal Investigator for a multidisciplinary innovation project titled “Trends in Environment: An Interdisciplinary Approach” sanctioned by Hindu College (Delhi University) and involving three disciplines viz. Philosophy, History and Sanskrit. She has Participated in Asian Undergraduate Summit, organised by Hindu College, Delhi University and National University of Singapore. She has acted as Examiner in the board of Examiner for UG (Sanskrit) Examination, University of Delhi.
