The increase in economic development and a rapidly growing population is putting a strain on the environmental infrastructure and the countries natural resources. The environmental Science will increasingly demand attention of everyone on the planet in the coming decades. From groundwater pollution in urban settings to rising sea levels, the effects of human impact on our environment will continue to threaten the sustainability of our natural world and humankind itself, posing one of the greatest scientific challenges of our time. To address the challenges that are increasingly complex and often global in scale, scientists will need new approaches to their investigations, and a greater exchange between disciplinary and interdisciplinary inquiry. Environmental scientists use a systems approach to the analysis of environmental problems. They work on subjects like understanding earth processes, evaluating alternative energy systems, pollution control and mitigation, natural resource management and the effects of global climate change. Goal of the doctoral program is to produce highly skilled scientists who will apply knowledge derived from basic and applied research to address the multifaceted concerns of the environmental science community in a changing global society.
Programme Objectives:
• To improve the understanding of environmental problems and to identify solutions to tackle these problems
• To foster collaborative, interdisciplinary research amongst scientists from various disciplines
• To promote research proposals/projects related to the different aspects of environmental science.
• To create a bridge between the university and the society to promote and encourage social awareness on the environment.
