Dr Mitoo Das

Assistant Professor

Dr. Mitoo Das is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology with an MPhil and a PhD degree from the University of Delhi. Dr. Das was a Junior and a Senior Research Fellow while she pursued her MPhil and PhD. Her specialization is in Social Anthropology, particularly in Gender and Sociology of Menstruation. She has presented papers in National Seminars and has published papers in journals like Eastern Anthropologist and Indian Anthropologist. She has taught as a guest lecturer in Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi and has worked as a Programme Coordinator at Sarai, Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi. She has also worked as Editorial Assistant for the international peer-reviewed bi-annual journal Bioscope: South Asian Screen Studies (published by Sage).

At IGNOU Dr. Das at present she is course coordinator for the course on Anthropology and Methods of Research for Master’s Part I and course coordinator for the courses on Practicing Anthropology and Gender and Society for Master’s Part II. She is also coordinator for the courses on Fundamentals of Anthropology and Applied Anthropology for the soon to be launched Bachelor’s Degree Programme. As part of the Discipline’s activities, she organised a workshop on Qualitative Research Methods in Contemporary Times.
Dr. Das is one of the contributors to the fictional piece, “The Afterlife of Ammi’s Betel-nut Box and Other Things” in the graphic novel, The Pao Anthology of Comics #1, published by Penguin India, New Delhi (published in August, 2012).
