Dr Rukshana Zaman

Assistant Professor

Dr. Rukshana Zaman is an Assistant Professor in the faculty of Anthropology. She completed her M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the Department of Anthropology, University of Delhi. She was awarded an ICSSR scholarship while pursuing her PhD. Paper presentations in National and International seminars/conferences, publications in journals and chapters in edited books are a part of her portfolio. She has been a visiting faculty for “EARN WHILE YOU LEARN” an initiative under the Ministry of Tourism and had delivered lectures in Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management, Jamia Milia Islamia and College of Vocational Training. For Regional Level Guide Training Programme and for the Refresher Course for Information Officers under the Ministry of Tourism Institute of Hotel Management, Catering & Nutrition she has been associated as a visiting faculty.

As a Consultant for the educational sector she had worked on behalf of NETSPIDER INDIA an IT company excelling in form processing solutions. A President’s Awardee for service as a girl guide she also has a bachelor’s degree in Odissi Dance. Her area of specialization is Social Anthropology, particularly in Gender and Dance studies. Presently, she is coordinating the courses Social Anthropology (MAN 001) and Comparative Ethnography (MANE 003) for the Masters Programme in Anthropology (MAAN). She is also coordinator for the courses on Fundamentals of Anthropology and Applied Anthropology for the soon to be launched Bachelor’s Degree Programme in IGNOU. As part of the Discipline activities, she has organised a Panel Discussion on the theme Ethnography. Presently she is a member of the Academic Council of IGNOU and the convenor of IGNOU Researchers Forum.
