Dr Jagdish Sharma

Associate Professor

M.A., Ph.D. in Sanskrit Literature. M.A. in Distance Education and Journalism. Early orientation in Sanskrit. Area of interest includes Sanskrit Grammar and Broadcasting. Had a rare distinction to pursue research under the guidance of Swami Lakshman Joo Raina on Monsitic Shaivism popularly known as Kashmir Sahisvism. As a senior broadcaster and planner, served the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in Kashmir, Delhi and Himachal Pradesh. Significantly contributed to the Indological series of State University of New York Press under Shaiva Fellowship as guest editor in some of the landmark publications namely--Shiva Sutra, Secret Supreme, Practice in Kashmir Shaivism, Pratyabhijnakarika and Tantraloka (4 volumes).

As academics joined Regional Service and served Himachal Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir as Deputy Director and also Regional Director where established centres in Tribal Region of Hiamchal Pradesh and Jail inmates in Udhampur and Jammu High Security Prison besides, the border villages on Indo-Pak Control Line. Played a crucial role in launching and subsequently making IRC (Interactive Radio Counselling) an important learning resource and catalyst in access and reach to IGNOU. Having contributed through his writings on current issues and career guidance, he is now focusing on issues related to Media and Culture in Translation. Awarded for Best Essay on Education Vision 2020 by IGNOU in 2008.
