Dr. Jyoti Chawla
Assistant Professor
Dr. Jyoti Chawla is Assistant Professor in School of Translation Studies and Training, IGNOU. She joined IGNOU on February 3, 2009. Creative writer and critic in Hindi, she is a major voice in contemporary Hindi writing. She did her B.A, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D. from University of Delhi.
Her areas of interest are Translation Studies, Gender in Translation, Culture Studies and Modern Hindi Literature.
Author/Editor of 4 books. Jyoti Chawla is a strong voice in feminist writing, and believes in bringing peripheral issues of Society to the fore through her writing.
Names of her books include : ‘Maa ka Jawan Chehra (poetry collection). Jaise koi udas laut jaye darwaze se (poetry collection), Andhere ki koi shakl nahi hoti (short story collection), Shrestha Hindi Kahaniyan (co-edited).
Presently, she is working on her book of criticism which will be published soon.
Few works are translated, published and appreciated in Marathi, Punjabi, Oriya, and English etc. Besides books, a good number of papers/Research Papers published in Journals, books and periodicals of repute. 8 entries on literature, translation and criticism published in Bhartiya Sahitya Kosh, Kolkata. She has been awarded with Sheela Siddhantkar Smriti Samman, 2014 for her first book Maa ka Jawan Chehra
Dr. Chawla is Programme Coordinator of P.G. Diploma in Translation (PGDT), P.G. Certificate in Malayalam-Hindi Translation (PGCMHT) and P.G. Certificate in Bangla-Hindi Translation (PGCBHT). Currently, she is developing a programme – Anuvad evam Rupantaran mein snatakottar pramanpatra karyakram, she has designed and developed various courses of M.A. (Translation Studies), M.Phil. & Ph.D. in Translation Studies. Dr. Chawla has represented Hindi and contemporary Hindi writing on various forums through her creative and critical writing. She has presented papers, delivered lectures in various National and International Seminars and on Doordarshan and All India Radio.
