IGNOU VCs vision to fortify student support services

16 August, 2012

Prof. Gopinath Pradhan, Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) sets his focus on strengthening the student support services at the Regional Centers as his immediate priority. Prof. Pradhan, while hoisting the national flag at the Electronic Media and Production Centre (EMPC) on the 66th Independence Day announced his vision for the university.

“We would like to strengthen the student support services in two ways; one would be related to the operational side which would cater to helping students with filling in the forms, etc. The other would be to focus on improved counseling for students. We give them reading material but besides, we also hire experts from different colleges and universities who teach students a particular subject at a fixed time of the week. We have a number of programmes which range from the Bachelor’s to the Ph.D. and we would like to have more experts who can tackle students’ doubts,” he said.

He also emphasized on self assesment and said that, “As we celebrate the 66 th Independence Day today and see the university on the world map, self introspection becomes must.”

Addressing his Independence Day message for IGNOU students he urged them to achieve higher levels in their academic pursuits, improve their overall performance that helps bring name to the university.

The flag hoisting ceremony ended with the national anthem followed by a cultural programme, a vocal recital by Prof. Naval Kishore from Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE) and Prof. Ajit Singh from Academic Coordination Division (ACD).

Presentations were also made by children of IGNOU crèche and a magic show by Mr. K. C. Pandey, Section Officer, Administration.

The celebration was attended by a large number of academic staff and officers of IGNOU while the programme was coordinated by Mr. M. P. Singh, Chief Security Officer of the university.
