IGNOU organises workshop to empower teachers
04 September, 2012
The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU’s) Inter University Consortium (IUC) from today, commenced a three day workshop on ‘Multimedia e-Content Development Using Open Source Tools’ for the faculty members of the University in its Multimedia Lab on the occasion of Teacher’s Day.
The training aims to promote technology enabled education to create new e-content in order to promote the existing Open and Distance Learning (ODL) programmes. The workshop shall provide a lead in the transformation of the conventional distance learning to ICT- enabled, multimedia based, online learning.
Teachers have a pivotal role in the success of any educational endeavour, their being proficient in the technologies of the online courses is an area which needs immediate attention.
Teaching in the digital information age indicates a paradigm shift in the teaching learning strategies. A teacher no longer is only a subject expert but needs to be a multi-resource person, an expert in content as well as the technologies that facilitate learning. Online courses are the future generation course with great potential to achieve the goals of Open and Distance learning.
There were 24 faculty members of the University from its various schools who are attending the workshop. After the three days training the faculty members will be able to analyse and develop a script for e-content. They will also be able to design and develop multimedia e-content using open source tools.
