IGNOU to Organize a National Seminar on The Preamble of the Constitution of India

The School of Law, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is organizing a one day National Seminar on ‘The Preamble of the Constitution of India’ on 26th November, 2015 to mark the celebration of 125th Birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.

 

Hon'ble Mr. Justice Jasti Chelameswar, Judge, Supreme Court of India has kindly consented to deliver the inaugural address on the theme “Constitutional debate on the Preamble of the Constitution of India”with special reference to deliverance of Justice.

 

This seminar will also have four Technical Sessions covering the entire gamut of the Preambular goals of the Constitution of India such as (i) Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic w.r.t. constitution 42ndamendment Act, 1976 on the Preamble, (ii) Justice: Social, Economic and Political, (iii) Liberty of thought, Expression, Belief, Faith and Worship and (iv) Equality of Status and Opportunity & Fraternity.

 

The eminent speakers on the above themes such as (i) Subhash C. Kashyap, former Secretary-General, Lok Sabha (ii) Prof. G. Mohan Gopal, Director, Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, (iii) Prof. Sachidanandam, Former VC, Dr. Ambedkar Law University, Chennai & presently Visiting Prof., NLU Delhi, (iv) Prof. Parmanand Singh, Former Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi and (v) Prof. BT Kaul, Chairperson, Delhi Judicial Academy, New Delhi, have agreed to share their views and thoughts on the respective themes. Around 35 teacher & academics have expressed their desire and willingness to participate in the discussion/deliberations on the said themes. This seminar will take place in the Studio- II of Electronic Media Production Centre (EMPC), IGNOU.

 

The Seminar will focus on various Preambular goals visualized at the time of framing of the Constitution of India on the one hand and also make a fair assessment of the realization of the such ideals and goals enshrined in the Preamble of the Constitution of India in addition to finding out the reasons/obstacles, etc. encountered by the successive legislative, executive and judicial organs of the state since independence. This seminar will also focus on working out a future road map, if any, in furtherance of realization of the Preambular goals/ideals yet to be achieved/realized.
