Media Release Lecture on Women Safety: Issues and Concerns

Today, CASH (Committee Against Sexual Harassment) of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organized a Lecture on “Women Safety: Issue and Concerns” at the Convention Centre at IGNOU Headquarters. This program was webcast to all its 56 regional centres.

The main speaker of the function was Ms. Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women.

Ms. Sarika Choudhary, Member of Delhi Commission for Women, Prof. Gayatri Kansal, chairperson ICASH, IGNOU, Prof. Kapil Kumar, Prof. of School of Social Science and Dr. Monica Misra, Member ICASH were also present at the lecture. Delivering the welcome address Prof. Kansal elaborated about the functioning of CASH.


Ms. Swati Maliwal shared her experiences while working for the cause women issues. In her opinion because of delayed justice atrocities against women are not getting checked. She informed about her efforts to improve the situation of Nari Niketan ( Protection Home by Government), she explained the need and reasons for more Rehabilitation centre and forensic labs for rape victims. She informed about the efforts Delhi Commission for women is making to bring justice at speedy pace to rape victims. she also added “ High level committee is being made for women to resolve the issue. She also informed about the Delhi government’s initiative to give job to the Acid attack Victims. She ended her lecture with the lines “ Dil ki awaz suno”.

Prof. Kapil Kumar stated that “we need to change our mindset. He also added it’s not only men but women should support women.

Ms Sarika Choudhary, Member of Delhi Commission of Women shared her experiences and emphasized for the need of checking the crime against the women.

Lecture session was followed by the interaction session. Lecture ended with vote of thanks and National Anthem.
