Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture

The 20th Prof. G. Ram Reddy Memorial Lecture shall be held on 2nd July, 2015 at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

The lecture shall be delivered by Prof. Arun Nigavekar, former Chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.

The topic of the lecture is “India Needs to go for Disruptive Innovation in Higher Education Sector”. The programme shall be presided over by Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Vice Chancellor (I/c). Dr. P. Prakash, Pro Vice Chancellor, IGNOU and Mr. Sudhir Budakoti, Registrar (Administration), IGNOU shall also address the gathering.

Prof. Nigavekar is Raja Ramanna Fellow, Senior Advisor & Trustee, Science & Technology Park, University of Pune. He has been Chairman UGC, former Vice Chancellor, University of Pune and Founder Director,National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Basically a Professor in Materials Science, with 70 research publications & 21 Ph.D. students to his credit, Prof. Nigavekar established Centre for Advanced Studies in Physics in Pune in 1970-1980. Later as a Director of Educational Media Research Centre in Pune, he established Communication science Department in Pune University in nineties. He was a visiting Professor in University of York in U.K. and University of Western Ontario in Canada in eighties. His contribution in science education, as a founder editor of Physics Educational Journal, a journal of International repute, are recognized globally.

Prof. G. Ram Reddy was the Founder Vice Chancellor of IGNOU and the Memorial Lecture is organized annually on 2nd July.

Prof. Reddy established, shaped and nurtured many institutions of higher learning, including the B.R Ambedkar Open University and the NAAC in India. He held many other important positions in the academic world Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University for two terms, Vice-President of the Commonwealth and Learning (COL), Chairman of UGC and Chairman of the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
