The main objective of this programme is to enhance knowledge, skills and awareness among the students in the field of Industrial safety, health and environment.
In Engineering and Technology areas, the university has planned to develop employment-related continuing education programmes aimed at increasing job potential and economic advantage for the learner. The programmes are to be at tertiary level.

The objectives of the programme are:   

• Upgrading educational qualification of learners;
• Creating opportunities for in-house training in industries for continuing education;
• Promoting the educational well-being of the community; and
• Offering need-based academic programmes.

Evaluation System
In this section, the evaluation system adopted for Post Graduate Diploma Programmes in Industrial Safety, Health & Environment Management duly approved by Academic Council has been presented.

Marking System

1. A course under a programme in BTCM/BTWRE/ADCM/ADWRE is implemented on Semester Pattern.
2. Evaluation System for a course will consist of a Continuous Evaluation Component and a Term-End-Examination. Continuous Evaluation Component, depending on course requirements, may represent any suitable combination of following types of evaluation components : Periodic Assignments, Functional Assignments which in turn may include Syndicate Exercise, Work-related field projects, Technical Visits, etc. Term-End-Examination, amongst other items, may also include objective type questions apart from descriptive questions.

3. Continuous Evaluation and Term-End-Examination components under a course will be assessed by awarding marks. A course will have total 100 marks.

The students will be awarded marks in continuous assessment and term end components as given below

1. Laboratory Courses Guided Component 70%
   Unguided Component 30%

2. Project Course 100%
   Theory Courses Continuous Evaluation 30%
   (Rest of the Courses) Term-End Examination 70%

(d) Thus, a student will receive marks for Continuous Evaluation part and for
Term-End-Examination part for each theory course. In order to clear a course, a student will have to clear both the segments, i.e. continuous and Term-End Evaluation (or Guided and Unguided Components in context of laboratory courses).

To facilitate statement of overall performance at any point of time during the programme or at the end of the programme, the calculation of overall percentage will be based on the weighted average system and the precision will be up to the one point after the decimal.

Calculations will be carried out using the following scheme :

where C1, C2 … denote credits associated with courses taken by the student and P1, P2 … denote the percentage of marks awarded in respective courses.

The divisions will be decided as follows :

• Second division will be at 50% and up to less than 60%.

• First division will be at 60% and up to less than 75%
   

2. Evaluation for Laboratory Courses

1. Laboratory courses are same as other course in Engineering and Technology in terms of marking system based evaluation.

2. The method for evaluation is as given below :

Evaluation of Laboratory Courses will be done in two components.

Component (i) 70% marks will be allotted for a set of guided experiments to be carried out by students. These experiments would be marked by the Study Centre/Programme Study Centre/Work Centre counsellors as per the marking scheme prepared by the discipline group.

Component (ii) 30% marks will be allotted for a set of (one or more) assigned unguided experiments to be carried out by the students at the end of the laboratory course session after the completion of all guided experiments.

3. Counsellors and/or external examiners will be there for evaluation of assigned unguided experiments.

4. The requirement of assignments will be deleted in case of laboratory courses.

5. The total marks awarded in a laboratory course will be by adding marks obtained in two components mentioned above in accordance with the weightage attached. For success in the laboratory course, one has to score atleast 45% marks in each component alongwith an overall marks of 50%.

6. A student with less than 75% of attendance in the residential term of laboratory course will not be considered for evaluation.

SOME IMPORTANT NOTES WHILE PREPARING THE PROJECT PROPOSAL
Send only one copy of the Project Proposal, and retain a copy with you.

“ET-500” should be written prominently on the envelope and should be addressed to : The Coordinator (Project ET-500), School of Engineering and Technology, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110 068. In all correspondence with the University, quote the Project Proposal Number/Project Report Number, as the case may be, which is given by the University. Ensure the inclusion of the following items while submitting the Proposal :

1. Proforma for approval of Project Proposal, duly filled in and signed by both the student and local supervisor.

2. Detailed Bio-data of the local supervisor duly signed by him/her.

3. Synopsis of the Project

The synopsis of your Project should include the following :
 

1. Rationale for the study

2. Objectives of the study

3. Methodology to be used for carrying out the study (detailed)

4. The expected contribution from the study

5. Limitations, if any, and the direction for future study.

   
   SOME IMPORTANT NOTES WHILE PREPARING THE PROJECT REPORT
    

1. The Project Work should be submitted in A-4 Size (29 cm ? 20 cm), typed in double space, in a bound volume.

2. Before binding the Project report the student should ensure that it contains the following

1. Approved Project Proposal Proforma

2. Synopsis, and

3. The certificate of originality of work by the local Supervisor.

Candidate should submit a statement, certifying that the work is an original one and has not been submitted earlier either to this University or to any other institution for fulfillment of the requirement of a course of study. The above certificate should be countersigned by the local Project Supervisor. If any Project Proposal is received in the absence of the above, the same will be returned to the student for compliance.

3. The student should prepare three typed copies of the final project report. Two typed copies of the project report are to be submitted to the Director (SED) of the University by Registered insured post. Student should keep a copy of the project report with them. The project report submitted will not be returned to the student.
