Offers two full-fledged professional training programmes: Post Graduate Diploma in Distance Education (PGDDE) and Master of Arts in Distance Education (MADE) to develop human resources in distance education. |

Organizes national and international training programmes for teaching, academic and non-academic staff working in open and distance education institutions. |

Develops training packages and other resource materials for various categories of functionaries working in the distance education system. |

Offers research degree programmes in India and overseas leading to M.Phil and Ph.D in Distance Education, thus developing specialisation in the area. |

Conducts research in the different areas of distance and open education for improving the quality of course materials, instructions, and support services as well as for the overall system development. |

Undertakes Programme Evaluation for IGNOU programmes. |
|
Provides national and international consultancy services for capacity building and systems development. |
|
Serves as a resource centre for open and distance education training and research in the Commonwealth and outside. |
