Gold Medal for Innovations

One of the objectives of NCIDE is to encourage, recognise and promote innovations in distance education. Keeping this in view, the IGNOU has introduced a 'Gold Medal' for innovations in distance education. The purpose of the award is to recognise innovations in ODL system as envisaged by the NCIDE.

Purpose

The purpose of the award is to recognize & promote innovations in ODL system as envisaged by the NCIDE, which has been on a mission to seek creative solutions to promote effectiveness, quality and reach of the ODL system.

Eligibility

Any individual / team / unit of IGNOU / SOUs / Directorates of Distance Education in conventional Universities / Publicly funded Institutions that has worked for creating an innovative product or methodology (during the last three years) for the growth and efficacy of ODL system, is eligible to apply.

Areas

Applications for consideration of the award areinvited in the following areas:

Programme development, i.e new /revised content(including contemporary development issues)
Instructional design and delivery (in all the aspects of ODL including print, audio, video & counseling etc)
Learner support and query management systems for addressing learner’s problems
Examination and Evaluation. New method of fair and smooth conduct of exam, innovative mechanism of evaluation including ICT based evaluation techniques
Administrative facilitation. Innovative technology applications for administrative facilitation and such other areas that fall under ODL system
Monitoring and Feedback. Creation of intelligent and effective solutions for monitoring the functioning of the system and feedback to the learners, teachers and the institute
Innovations supporting Convergence & Conversion of Sub-system including any advanced and learner-centric education system catering to the varying demands of the emerging knowledge society.

Gold Medal Awarded so far

Gold medal for 2006 was awarded to innovative instructional design for certificate Programme in Craft & Design (Pottery).
Gold medal for 2007 was again awarded to innovative instructional design for Certificate Programme in Motor Cycle Service and Repair-IGNOU-HHML Project.
During 2008 none of the entries received was found suitable for awarding the Gold Medal.

Application

Those who are interested in applying for the award may fill up the prescribed proforma and get it forwarded by their respective Heads of the Divisions/ Schools as the case may be and submit the same to the Director, NCIDE. Applications for the Gold Medal are invited normally in the month of January. The director NCIDE maybe requested for the application proforma.
