The SWAYAM PRABHA is a group of 40 DTH channels devoted to telecasting of high-quality educational programmes on 24X7 basis using the GSAT-15 satellite. Every day, there will be new content for at least (4) hours which would be repeated 5 more times in a day, allowing the students to choose the time of their convenience. The channels are uplinked from BISAG-N, Gandhinagar. The contents are provided by IITs, UGC, CEC, and IGNOU. The INFLIBNET Centre maintains the web portal.

IGNOU has been entrusted with the responsibility of National Coordinator for SWAYAM PRABHA for six channels (Ch 11 to 16) which are presently operational from 1st September 2023 after re-organization of earlier channels.

Since its initiation, the SWAYAM PRABHA project at IGNOU has been housed at Centre for Online Education (COE) at IGNOU HQs at New Delhi from where these channels are coordinated for production of videos, scheduling and overall management in coordination with BISAG, INFLIBNET and MoE.

SWAYAM PRABHA Live Sessions in Regional Languages
The content in these channels are delivered in 15 Regional Languages (including English) Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Mizo, Manipuri & Urdu. As on April 2024 overall 7500 + live sessions have been conducted for 15 regional languages.
