SWAYAM

SWAYAM is a programme initiated by the Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity, and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy. IGNOU is one of the National Coordinator of SWAYAM to offer Certificate and Diploma level courses including skill-based courses and courses related to lifelong learning. SWAYAM is at present hosted in COE, which is facilitating the development of SWAYAM MOOCs.

In the first run during JUL-2017, IGNOU offered 11 MOOCs. IGNOU has offered 21 SWAYAM courses including courses of Online Programmes since January 2020 and further, 52 courses have been added in the July 2020 session in response to COVID-19 which attracted more than 1.5 lakhs learners. During Jan-2024 cycle IGNOU offered 225 SWAYAM courses with more than 2.2 lakh learners

Translation of SWAYAM Courses:
COE as office of SWAYAM National Coordinator undertook coordination of translation work of 16 SWAYAM Courses in eight languages namely Bengali, Guajrati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu. Videos belonging to 16 SWAYAM courses were transcribed and then translated into above languages. These translations will be uploaded in the course pages on SWAYAM Portal.
