RC Madurai gets Rs. 7 lakh govt grant for Community Colleges

The Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, has approved a proposal submitted by IGNOU Regional Centre Madurai for establishing Community Colleges in the region. An amount of Rs. 7 lakh has been sanctioned by the Ministry for the commencement of the project.

According to the proposal, RC Madurai will be responsible for facilitating the activities of the scheme of Area Development Programme of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and establishing Community Colleges in collaboration with the State Education Department (Schools) through ‘Valar Kalvi Thittam’, an ongoing project of the Government of Tamil Nadu.

IGNOU has been providing an alternative system of education to several learners through the Community College Scheme, which was launched on July 4, 2009. Till date, nearly 535 Community Colleges have been established across the country.
