The Public Information Unit (PIU) acts as a bridge between the public and the University. It reaches out to the prospective students of the University by providing information about academic programmes of the University, its instructional system and admission procedures. It also undertakes activities to maintain a positive image and enhance the outreach of the University.

The Unit prepares and disseminates media releases and various advertisements pertaining to admission appointments, tenders and other notifications.

The PIU responds to all queries of the general public pertaining to admission/academic programmes, rules and regulations of the University through e-mail/fax/post/telephone and in person. It also monitors the grievances of students appearing in the press.

The Unit issues a large number of media releases which are published in national dailies. The Unit apprises the media and provides publicity support for various events/seminars/talks organized by the University.

The Unit also arranges visits of the press for the coverage of IGNOU with particular reference to activities in various Schools and Divisions.

During any year, around 50 advertisements and over 100 press releases are issued by PIU.
