  • The 17th Convocation held.

  • Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India was the Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation address.
  • Sh. N R Narayana Murthy, Chairman, Infosys was awarded Doctor of Science, (Honoris Causa).
  • Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organised an International Training Programme on "Media for Diplomacy" for the Press Attaches of the Embassy of the State of Kuwait from Feb.06-March 10, 2006

  • IGNOU launches Ph.D. in Commerce and Management.
  • Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai takes over as the new Vice Chancellor of IGNOU on October 21, 2006.
  • Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India, inaugurates the one-stop educational portal SAKSHAT.
  • IGNOU decides to form an Alumni Association, so as to bring together all the ex-students of IGNOU.
  • A meeting of the Vice Chancellors of State Open Universities and Directors of Directorates of Distance Education Institutions held with Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Chairman, Distance Education Council.
