Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) honoured with the Presidential Gold Medal Award by the Prime Minister of India at the 95th Indian Science Congress 2008 in Visakhapatanam on January 3.
An MoU between IGNOU and Atomic Energy Education Society (AEES), Mumbai, is signed to enhance the information knowledge and Information Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities of the employees of AEES at different levels.
Prof. V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice Chancellor, IGNOU launches e-books for the National Open and Distance Learners' Library and Information Network (NODLINET).
Six dignitaries are conferred the Doctorate Degrees (Honoris Causa) at the 19th convocation of IGNOU on 16th February 08, viz. Prof. C.N.R. Rao, Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Prof. M.S. Valiathan, Pandit Shis Kumar Sharma, Prof. Rahman Rahi and Prof. Indira Goswami.
Prof. M.S. Swaminathan, Chair, Sustainable Development, IGNOU and Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, inaugurates a three-day International Conference on ‘Issues in Public Policy and Sustainable Development’.
Hon'ble Dr. Karan Singh delivers the "Public Lecture on Sustainable Development in the Indian Ethos", organised by the Chair for Sustainable Development.
The new B. R. Ambedkar Chair for Social Changes and Development at IGNOU will develop B.A., M.A. and M.Phil.programmes in the areas of caste, religion, philosophy and human rights constitutional studies.
A meeting of the Vice Chancellors of all the State Open Universities and Directors of Directorates of Distance Education is held on July 1, 2008.
