Dr. Alok Kumar Upadhyay is currently serving as Associate Professor in Disability Studies, School of Continuing Education (SOCE) at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. He has worked as Reader & Associate Professor in Special Education at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), Mysuru (Mysore), Karnataka from 2013 to 2023. He has been actively involved in training of special education teachers, children with special needs and professionals since 2005.Dr. Upadhyay was graduated and post graduated in Special Education with first division and has another post-graduation in mathematics with First division and has a Ph.D. degree in Education (Special Education) emphasis on children with hearing impairment. His special areas of interest include the early childhood education of children with communication disorders, Teaching strategies, methods and classroom management for inclusive education. He has worked in various administrative capacities as Head of Department (Department of Special Education) for 6 years, In charge of Official language Implementation Cell (OLIC) for 02 years, Hostel Warden for 02 years, In charge of Preschool Parent Empowerment Program (PPEP) & Parent Infant Program (PIP) for 05 years. He has guided 12 masters (M.Ed. -special education) and 04 doctoral (Ph.D.) students for their Dissertations and Thesis and currently 05 research scholars are pursuing their doctoral degree under his supervision. He has completed 04 research projects funded by AIISH Research fund, Ministry of Health and family welfare, Govt. of India and one funded project from Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi is in progress under his investigation. He has edited 3 books (Modules)on Early childhood Manual and co-authored one Book. He has more than 50 research publications/articles in reputed journals, chapters in books. In his credit more than 35 papers have presented in national or international conferences/ seminars. Dr Upadhyay has served as a member in Executive council, Academic council and other various committees of university. He has been a member of Board of Studies and Board of Examiners of different Universities of South as well as North India. Dr. Upadhyay has served a professional body i.e., National Convention of Educators of the deaf (NCED) India as a President-Karnataka chapter during 2016-2019. Dr. Upadhyay has received best research paper award at Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He is a recipient of Award for Outstanding Performance in the field of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities of year 2018 by KALYANAM KAROTI Organization; Mathura (U.P.).
