Prof. Arobindo Mahato

Prof. Arobindo Mahato, is a know academician and development practitioner presently working as Professor Rural Development, School of Continuing Education, IGNOU. Prior to that he was Regional Director at IGNOU Regional Centre, Agartala, Tripura. Prof. Mahato has completed his Ph.D. and Master in Rural Development from visva-bharati, shantiniketan.
He served as Head of the Department of Rural Studies, Tripura University (A Central University) from 2017 to 2022. During his tenure in Tripura University along with teaching the students of Master in Rural Management and Development, he taken up various academic administration responsibilities such as Chairman Board of Post Graduate Studies, Convener IQAC, Joint Director of Faculty Development Centre under PMMMNMTT etc.. Prof. Mahato was Court member of Rajib Gandhi University from 2019 to 2022. He closely worked with Ministry of Rural Development, Govt. of Tripura and served as member in selection committee of Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, Social Audit, SOFED etc.. He organizes various International and National level seminars such as “International Seminar on Sustainable Development Goals2030: Role of Anthropology in social Inclusion and Tribal Development” in Collaboration with Anthropological society of Inida, “The Problems of Educated Tribal Youths for Securing Job: Special Reference to Tribal Youths of Tripura, on 27th – 28thFebruary, 2020” in collaboration with Centre for North East Studies and Policy Research, Jamia Millia Islamia, “21 days Interdisciplinary refresher course on Gandhian Philosophy and Rural Development, from 28th April to 18th May, 2017”, in collaboration with Gandh Smriti and Darshan Samiti etc.. Prof. Mahato Published many book with Rutledge, Indian School of Advance Studies. His one of the book “Business plan in Enterprising” is highly appreciated by the various practitioners as well as academicians. He has published number of article in various field of rural development reputed journals. He has also review the book on Rural Development published by SAGE. Prof Mahato is the Editor in Chief for the Journal of Rural and Industrial Development, Publishing India Group. He has completed a number of research projects sponsored by ICSSR, DST, NABARD, ONGC, NIRD & PR, GSDS, NUEPA, Govt. of Tripura etc..
Prof. Mahato established number of eco-friendly enterprises during 2005 to 2011 in Andhra Pradesh and Bundelkhand, India. He has taken up various aspects of livelihood such as tourism, trade between India and Bangladesh, Impact of migration from Bangladesh to India on rural livelihood, women entrepreneurship etc.
