Agriculture Extension is the engine of agricultural development through transfer and training of advances in the production technologies to farmers and other stakeholders of agriculture sector.
The extension system should not only transfer the knowledge and information to farmers, but it should facilitate application of knowledge in field. The extension system is changing in India. Open and Distance Learning is a new entry in the country’s extension system and can play an important role in extension activity.
The PhD Programme seeks to conduct research studies to increase access to knowledge and technologies for development in agriculture.
Objectives:
The objectives of the programme are to:
- Promote the open and distance learning in agriculture through postgraduate programmes in Agricultural Extension;
- Develop the human resource capabilities of research and extension personnel of national agricultural research and development systems;
- Popularise the application of ICTs in agricultural extension management system;
- Develop model of open distance education in offering post graduate and research programmes in agriculture education.

Rs. 7000.00 per annum plus Rs. 7000.00 for course work
Student Support Activities
Learning Material: The printed study material is sent to the registered students at home by post.
Audio-visual learning aids: The learning package also contains audio and video cassettes and CDs which have been produced by the University. A video programme is usually of 25-30 minutes duration. These programmes can be heard/viewed at the study centre during specific sessions, or purchased for use at home.
Counselling: Counselling sessions are held according to a schedule drawn up by the study centre coordinator, usually during weekends.
TV counselling and Tele-conferencing: Through GyanDarshan Channels and EduSat. One GyanDarshan channel is available on DTH platform.
Radio Counselling: Through phone-in programme
*1 credit = 30 hours of student’s study time
