Introduction

The Certificate in Criminal Justice Social Work (CCJSW) offered by the School of Social Work, IGNOU is a multidisciplinary programme designed to equip learners with foundational knowledge and practical skills at the intersection of social work and criminal justice.

This programme aligns significantly with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) by emphasizing victim-centric justice, protection of vulnerable populations, rehabilitation, restorative approaches, and rights-based interventions within the justice delivery system.

Graduates can explore opportunities in correctional institutions, probation and rehabilitation services, NGOs, child protection systems, women’s support services, victim assistance programmes, legal aid organizations, community justice initiatives and research or advocacy roles.

Objective

  • To develop a cadre of trained para social workers to render humanitarian services in criminal justice system
  • To provide knowledge base and skills training to learners alongwith practical experiences to render social and legal services in correctional settings across the country,
  • To extend professional help to target population in correctional setting; and
  • To create space and demonstrate humanitarian initiatives that addresses specific issues of marginalized people in criminal justice system.
