The Four-Year Bachelor of Arts (Urdu) Programme (BAFUD) offered by IGNOU is a comprehensive and multi-faceted undergraduate degree. This Programme is designed in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes flexibility, multidisciplinarity, and holistic development. The NEP calls for a move towards broad-based, flexible learning pathways with multiple entry and exit points, ensuring that students can enter, exit, or re-enter the programme at different stages depending on their academic needs and career goals.
This programme is intended to provide a deep understanding of Urdu language and literature, as well as the development of skills in communication, critical thinking, creative writing, and cultural awareness. This programme aimed at providing students with a robust academic foundation in Urdu language and literature while incorporating interdisciplinary learning and skill development. It is structured to prepare students for the challenges of the modern world.

This Programme’s design promotes a balanced approach by offering a Major in Urdu, combined with Minor subjects, Ability Enhancement Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses, and Value-Added Courses. This programme has been designed to address the demands of the contemporary job market by enhancing students’ communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and their understanding of cultural heritage and ethics.
