Course Introduction:
This course consists of 5 blocks. Block 1 deals with the concept of law and international law. Block 2 covers the basic concepts of International Humanitarian Law. Block 3 deals with the basic rules of IHL such as Rule of Proportionality and Rule of Distinction. Block 4 covers the rules of protection of different catagories such as sick, wounded and shipwrecked persons, prisoners of war, civilian population during armed conflicts. It mainly covers 4 Gineva conventions of 1949 and Optional Protocols. Block 5 deals with the relation of IHL with other branches of law such human rights, refugee law, criminal law and Constitutional mandate.
This course consists of 5 blocks. Block 1 deals with the role of different stakeholders such as, states, non-state actors, UN, and international community. Block 2 deals with the application of IHL at the national level. It mainly covers the Indian Constitutional provisions and Gineva Convention Act. Block 3 deals with the application of IHL at the international level. It mainly covers the various ad hoc courts, International Criminal Court etc. Block 4 deals with the role of International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) in the application of IHL. Block 5 discusses the role of NGOs, media and educational institutions in the field of IHL
This course consists of 5 blocks. Block 1 deals with the significance of IHL for South Asia. It covers the concept of IHL in various ancient traditions such Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism etc. Block 2 and 3 covers the issues and concerns relating to IHL in the different South Asian countries. Block 4 deals with the impact of conflicts on various groups such as women, children, refugees and internally displaced persons, minorities. It also covers the problem of child soldiers. Block 5 covers the ameliorative mechanism such as Human Rights Commissions, UNHCR and ICRC.
