Certificate in Newborn and Infant Nursing (CNIN) is six months continuing nursing education programme of 16 credits. The programme is meant for and open to Nursing professionals (RNRM)/ Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or above. The programme is approved by IGNOU statuary Bodies and UGC. CNIN programme aims at improving, strengthening and updating the knowledge and skills of nursing professionals in care of newborn and infant. It is aimed at using appropriate nursing interventions to prevent mortality and morbidity due to common newborn problems Objectives: • Enhancing and updating the knowledge, skills and practice of nursing personnel in care of newborn and infants. • Enabling Nursing personnel to provide effective nursing care to normal, at risk and sick newborns and infants. The programme consists of 16 credits (6 credits in theory and 10 credits in practical) and has one theory course i.e. Nursing Care of Newborn and Infant (BNS 115) and one Practical course i.e. Nursing Practices and Procedures in Care of Newborn and Infant- (BNSL-115)
Implemented through Nodal Centre-RC Bijapur via alternate strategy Theory Contact sessions- Multimedia approach via GD- TC/GV-IRC/Web support including WEAS portal through and other portals along with Print material which in itself is self learning style. A panel of Subject experts in Obs& Gynae, Paediatrics as part time Academic Counsellors for specialty areas. Total hours18 hrs via online counselling sessions.
Total hours of Practical sessions are conducted /completed under approved concerned nursing officer (Mentor) by student on job itself, certified by the mentor. Learner is required to submit case studies/workbook for evaluation, which will be evaluated by Expert from the respective specialty to become eligible for practical examination.
Note: As per Indian Nursing Council (INC) letter No.F.No.22-203/CNE/2018-INC dated 27/11/2020 the DNA programme can be considered under continued Nursing Education programme with 55 CNE credit hour/11 Credit as approved by INC
