Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has developed a six months certificate proramme on Certificate in Phlebotomy Assistance (CPHA). Any 12th pass with sciences can join this programme. The Certificate in Phlebotomy Assistance (CPHA) program is a short duration skill based training program, with an objective to develop a pool of trained workforce which can be employed by diagnostic/healthcare service providers to assist Phlebottomist and medical laboratory technologist/pathologist. This program focuses on the acquisition of skills necessary to draw quality blood samples from patients and prepare those specimens for medical testing.
After completion of this programme, a student should be able to: Describe the overview of the healthcare and hospital systems ; Demonstrate the ability to correctly collect, transport, receive, accept or reject and store blood /urine/stool and tissue samples, etc.; . (only patient information) [pre analytic and post analytic]; Practice infection control measures, Biomedical Waste Management; Demonstrate techniques to maintain the personal hygiene needs; Demonstrate actions in the event of medical and facility emergencies; Demonstrate professional behaviour, personal qualities and characteristics of a Phlebotomist ; Demonstrate good communication, communicate accurately and appropriately in the role of Phlebotomist; Basics of resuscitation
