Introduction

This unique programme is the first of its kind offered by a Central University in India. This programme is designed to equip the learner with paralegal skills to enable him/her to use the legal system effectively. We enjoy rights under our Constitution and other laws which are necessary to live a life of dignity and full realisation of one's potential and aspirations. In recognition of the prevailing socio-economic inequalities, the constitutional guarantee of legal aid has been given due significance.

Objective

develop a functional understanding of the legal and judicial system and laws that affect individuals in everyday life;

impart elementary skills in accessing legal and judicial institutions and processes;
enable individuals to use public advocacy; and
develop a cadre of ‘barefoot lawyers’ for preventive legal services to strengthen the legal aid delivery system by bridging the gap between people, especially the most vulnerable, and the legal system by demystifying the law, spreading awareness and facilitating access.

Course Introduction:	This course consists of 4 blocks. block 1 covers the concept of Rule of Law, Constitutional values and democracy. Block 2 covers Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles and Fundamental Duties. Block 3 deals with institutional mechanism such as legislature, executive and judiciary. Block 4 deals with legal aid, informal dispute mechanism and right to information.

Course Introduction:	This course consists of 5 blocks. block 1 deals with Principles of civil law, criminal Law and evidence law. Block 2 covers the criminal justice system. Block 3 covers select civil laws such as family law, law of torts, environmental law and consumer law. Block 3 covers the commercial law such as laws relating to business interprises, contract and property law. Block 5 deals with labour laws.

Course Introduction:	This course consists of 4 blocks. Block 1 dels with the law related to women such as rape and dowry, violence against women, sexual harassment at workplace etc. Block 2 deals with the laws related to children such as child labour, right to education, labour law and juvenile justice system. Block 3 deal with the laws related to scheduled castes and schedules such as Protection of Civil Rights act, law related to the prevention of atrocities against SCs and STs and prohibition of manual scavenging and bonded labour. Block 4 covers the laws related to persons with disabilities and rights of HIV AIDS patients.

Course Introduction:	This course consists of 4 blocks. Block 1 deals with the constitutional framework of the panchayat system such as Gram Sabha and Gram Panchayat and their composition and powers and functions. Block 2 covers Gram Nyayalayas, micro finance and disaster management. Block 3 covers various socio-economic rights such right to food, housing, work and health. Block 4 covers rights relating to natural resources such as land rights and land acquisition, forest rights and water rights.
