Introduction

IGNOU has come forward to meet the requirement and provide opportunity to lakhs of fresh learners and also industry personnel to move ahead in their careers while on the job. This Diploma in Smart City Development and Management (DSCDM) aims to incorporate a blend of new and innovative aspects with academics of Smart Cities in the curriculum. This new and innovative programme Diploma in Smart City Development and Management (DSCDM) is a one-year Diploma programme and the learners would be given maximum three years to complete the programme. After completing this programme the learners may get opportunity to work in 100 Smart Cities are under development in India. The study centres will be established at various locations in India depending upon the strength of the participants. Initially the Digital Materials will be provided to the learners.

The Diploma in Smart City Development and Management (DSCDM) seeks to provide more accessible and quality education and training to fresh and working personnel to meet the real work needs of the different industry (Urban Infrastructure Development, IT Applications and Advanced Technology Applications etc;) and prepare them for the changes in techniques, technologies, markets and employment patterns. This Programme has been designed to enhance skills, knowledge, quality and productivity of learners.

This programme Diploma in Smart City Development and Management (DSCDM) may provide the opportunity to the learners to learn advanced and innovative IT technologies (Smart Transportation and Traffic System, Smart Energy Systems, Smart Health, Education, Smart Governance, Smart Water Metering etc;) and to implement in various smart city projects in India under progress.

Objective

The broad objectives of this Programme are to :

• To offer need based and tailor-made academic Programme on Smart Cities for the specific need of fresh learners and supervisory level manpower engaged in different industries leading to smart infrastructure applications.
• To upgrade and modernize the technical know-how of those engaged in the smart cities related activities apart from the fresh entrants to the different industry desirous of advancing their careers in smart cities development.
• To provide better knowledge on Smart Cities, Smart Technologies, Smart Energy Systems, Smart Transportation Systems, Smart Health, Smart Education, Smart Governance & Cyber Security, Safe Water, Sanitation and Sustainability in Smart Cities etc;.
