The School of Engineering and Technology has the responsibility of initiating academic, continuing and extension education programmes in the areas of engineering and technology. The School has developed several programmes aimed at increasing job potential and economic advantage to the learners. To fulfill its mandate, the School regularly interacts with employing agencies, professional bodies and industry so as to reflect educational and training needs of the targeted learner group in the curriculum. The School practices participative and collaborative strategy by inviting different industries.
The Programmes launched by the School range from a competency bases non-credit vocational qualification certificate to doctoral degree in engineering and technology. The school had successfully launched its programmes at various levels in the areas of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and also in the area of Renewable Energy.
Vision: The School of Engineering and Technology(SOET) aims to create a conducive learning environment and expertise in state of the art technologies, vocations and professions at all levels fulfilling the nation’s need of employment generations, skill upgradation, continuing education, research and development, using innovative technologies and methodologies, networking with technical and professional institutions and industries.
Mission: To develop education work linkages and provide opportunities by disseminating knowledge and skills in employment oriented technical, vocational and professional education at all levels of learning so as to reach the rural and urban masses through distance, blended and other modes of learning using various information and communication technologies.
The School of Engineering & Technology (SOET), came into existence in 1987, with a clear mandate to address the issues pertaining to continuing and extension education requirements in the country. The School devises and conducts academic continuing and extension education programmes in engineering and technology areas for disadvantaged and economically weaker sections, ranging from certificate to diploma/degree aimed at increasing job potential,knowledge and skill enhancement of learners. SOET also provides skill Upgradation and Training for capacity building using innovative technologies and methodology.

Over the years, SOET has developed a diverse and evolving academic portfolio encompassing Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Renewable Energy, Environmental Sustainability, Industrial Safety, Construction Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and other emerging areas of technology. Through this multidisciplinary academic framework, the school aims to develop competent, innovative, and socially responsible professionals equipped to address contemporary challenges in infrastructure, energy, sustainability, safety, and technology-driven industries.

Prof. Sanjay Agrawal is presently a Professor in Electrical Engineering at the School of Engineering and Technology, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Prof Agrawal has also worked as Pro Vice-Chancellor of Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekanand Technical University (CSVTU) Bhilai. He is the recipient of the prestigious Bhaskara Solar Energy Fellowship from the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India. This led him to his Post Doctoral Fellowship from Smart Grid Energy Research Centre, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),USA. Prof Agrawal received his Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
He has more than 22 years of rich teaching and research experience with a specialization in Electrical Engineering. He has published more than 70 papers in international journals. According to Google Scholar, his total citationsare over 2470 with andi-10 index of 39 and an h-index of 27.He has presented papers in Sweden, Spain, and the USA and has given more than 50 invited talks in reputed organizations. He has also published 03 patents, titled ‘Improved Hybrid Solar Collector’, ‘Hybrid Photovoltaic Thermal Apparatus with V-Groove Absorber” and Sheet and tubes based hybrid photovoltaic thermal system. He has guided 09 Ph.D. scholars so far and is a member of the editorial board and panel of reviewers of reputed international journals. Prof Agrawal has authored 03 books namely Analog and Digital Electronics, Control System, and Renewable Energy Technologies.
His industrial experience includes working with MNCs like Johnson Control (I) PVT Ltd. He has worked on Projects like ‘Automatic power factor correction’ funded by Applied Electro-Magnetic (P) Ltd, ‘Improved hybrid solar cooker’, and ‘Greenhouse dryer’ funded by TEQIP.
He has designed and developed industry-oriented programs like the PG Certificate and PG Diploma in Industrial Safety. He also coordinates a skill-oriented certificate course for technicians in Motorcycle Service Repair which is now also being offered to South African countries through IGNOU-GOAL, Guyana Project.
He has also developed 06 Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs): Principles of Electrical Science, Renewable Energy Technologies and Their Uses, Emerging Technologies in Renewable Energy, Power Generation Technologies, Industrial Automation and Drives, and Maintenance and Testing of Electrical Machines. All these courses are available on the SWAYAM platform. On the SWAYAM PRABHA channel of the Ministry of Education, he coordinates a course on ‘Electrical and Mechanical Safety’. He has also been a chairman and member of different committees of AICTE, Technical Universities, and the Public Service Commission. Prof. Rakhi Sharma is the recipient of prestigious All India University Gold Medal award for ‘Innovations in Distance Education’-2010. She has been conferred with the All India University Gold Medal for the ‘Best Research Paper Award’-2014 at IGNOU, New Delhi. Apart from this she also has many attainments in sport, won medals in state/university level tournaments and represented M.P. State at National Level Table Tennis tournaments. She won Youth Merit Award and selected for the National Scholarship Scheme for meritorious candidates from Madhya Pradesh.
She has more than 26 years of teaching and research experience and contributed significantly to the fields of electrical engineering and renewable energy. She has contributed extensively in designing, development and implementation of several technical academic courses at Certificate/UG/PG level in the area of electrical power and energy as Course/Programme coordinator. She has been associated with many collaborative projects. Under the Industry-education collaborative projects of IGNOU and Ministry of Power, she took initiatives as Project coordinator and planned, designed and successfully launched two innovative competency based skill development and capacity building training programmes in Power Distribution for engineers, managers and technicians engaged in power sector. Under the industrial-education work linkage programme in association with International Solar Alliance, she has worked for the development of solar application programme. Dr. Shiv Kumar Vyas has multidisciplinary qualifications in the areas of AgriculturalEngineering, Soil and Water Conservation Engineering, and Thermal Engineering. His research interests includes Field Irrigation & Water Conveyance, Thermo-fluid Dynamics involving Multiple Effect Distillation for Water Desalination, Design & Fabrication, Experimentation and Simulation etc.. He started his career as a Research Associate in 1987 at Water Technology Centre, Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi before joining IGNOU in 1988. He

He has been associated with IGNOU-Hero MotoCorp Project for its Certificate Programme in Motorcycle Service and Repair. He has coordinated B.Tech. (Civil- Water Resources Engineering) programme besides others. Over time he also developed interest in educational administration, and also conceived an employment oriented multidisciplinary “Bachelor Degree Programme in Office Administration” having inbuilt internship etc. and for which he carried out an Open Survey for its curriculum, acceptance and employability of such learners. The survey revealed that more than 95 percent of respondents agreed strongly and 90 percent of respondents agreed very strongly with the context and design of such programme. He has deep passion for work and loves to undertake challenging tasks, and has groomed himself as a trouble shooter.
