Introduction

In an Open University of national stature, the basic approach towards the Master's Degree Programme in English has to be carefully balanced vis-å-vis the conventional Universities and correspondence institutions. As such, parity, institutional recognition and innovativeness have been the basic planning strategies. Keeping the heterogeneous nature and varied needs of our clientele in mind, the MAEG programme caters to human resource development as well as self-enrichment. The aim is to give the learners a sound base in language as well as to give them exposure to a wide range of literature, with options for specialisation in a particular area of interest. The learner would thus hopefully acquire linguistic competence as well as develop confidence in his/her critical and analytical abilities.
