PGDCFT: Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Family Therapy(ODL) Apply Now

Introduction

Mental wellbeing is significant at all levels -- the individual, the family, and the society. In the traditional Indian context, the extended and joint family systems, the neighbourhood, and the kin group often acted as a buffer and helped in coping with stress and upheavals. In the contemporary times however, increasing westernization, urbanization, and individuation on the one hand, and dwindling support systems on the other hand, have complicated matters. The recent pandemic and its aftermath in various domains has also contributed in making life difficult and taking a toll on mental health. While environmental stressors cannot always be controlled, it is important to improve the coping strategy and resilience. Mental health and wellbeing needs to be nurtured for a better quality of life and a greater ability to cope with adversities. This Diploma Programme aims to generate awareness in this regard, and focuses on developing sensitization regarding the role that can be played by counselling and family therapy for promoting mental health and wellbeing.

A unique feature of the programme is that on successful completion of PGDCFT, the learner can enrol for the second year of Master of Science in Counselling and Family Therapy (MSCCFT), in subsequent session through credit transfer, as per University Rules.

Please note that the programme is not approved by the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP), which now governs the registration of individuals in this profession. Applicants are advised to go through the NCAHP Act (2021) for understanding the details of the professions with respect to this programme and to take an informed decision.
