The Ph.D. in Urdu offered by the Discipline of Urdu, IGNOU, is a research-oriented program aimed at promoting advanced study and critical inquiry in Urdu language and literature. It encompasses all major literary forms, including poetry, prose, fiction, novel, drama, criticism, research methodology, and translation studies. This program is designed to motivate research scholars in critical and analytical approaches to both classical and modern Urdu writings, enabling them to explore the literary, aesthetic, and cultural dimensions of Urdu with academic depth and originality. Its core objective is to enhance scholars who can promote Urdu literature’s tradition, diversity, and contemporary trends with intellectual insight and contribute new perspectives to literary research.
