The Student Registration Division (SRD) is responsible for planning, managing, and delivering all services related to student admission and registration at IGNOU. It serves as a single-window platform for learners to access information and complete processes such as fresh admission, re-registration, credit transfer, elective changes, study centre updates, and related services in a learner-friendly and technology-enabled manner.

The Student Registration Division (SRD) of IGNOU is responsible for:

  • developing policies and procedures for admission of learners into various academic programmes offered by the University;
  • managing the processes of admission, re-registration, credit transfer etc.;
  • maintaining the database of enrolled students and providing data/reports to various stakeholders;
  • providing information and guidance to the prospective learners; and
  • assessing equivalence of degrees awarded by other Universities/Institutions for the purpose of admission in academic programmes offered by the University.

The key responsibilities for SRD:

The programmes offer through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online modes to promote inclusive and flexible higher education.

Applicants are required to create their user ID and password before proceeding with IGNOU’s Online Admission system (OAS). Thereafter they can submit the online application forms along the details of Programme, Regional Centre and Study Centre chosen for the purpose. The programme fee can be paid through Credit/Debit Card/Net Banking using the online payment Gateway.

The Online Admission System provides many facilities to the students. Once the admission form is submitted online, the students can track the progress of their application. On confirmation of the admission, an SMS is sent to the mobile number of the students in addition to the email message sent on the email ID registered with the System.

The student Identity Card is generated online, which the students can download and print. We suggest that the interested applicants should carefully go through the Prospectus before submitting their application. The Prospectus can be downloaded from IGNOU website at http://www.ignou.ac.in/. The prospective students can access the online admission system at https://onlineadmission.ignou.ac.in

How to Apply Online
Prospective learners must:
  1. Visit the Online Admission System at ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in.
  2. Click New Registration and create an account using valid email and mobile.
  3. Choose programme, regional and study centre.
  4. Fill personal and academic details.
  5. Upload required documents and pay fees online.
  6. Submit application and download acknowledgment.
  7. (Note: Enrollment number will be shared via email/SMS upon confirmation.)

Check Admission & Registration Status

Students can verify the status of their application/admission through the official “Know Your Status” service.
How to:
  • Enter Enrollment Number and Programme Code.
  • The system displays details of admission, electives, centre, and confirmation.

To strengthen student services, SRD provides online services at IGNOU website at the weblink http://admission.ignou.ac.in/changeadmdata/admissionstatusnew.asp whereby learners can check their admission and re-registration details, change of elective course(s), address of the learner, credit transfer effected, study centre change and download prospectus for various programmes. For ready availability and convenience of IGNOU’s learners spread all over the country and abroad, SRD has incorporated validity period of admission in each student‘s registration in the database. Learners can view and check the status of their registration along with name and address details at the IGNOU website. Provision has been made for Regional Centres to download scholar register from the website itself.

SRD has also uploaded on IGNOU website, Credit transfer scheme of various programmes with prescribed pro-forma; notifications issued pertaining to equivalence/recognition granted and the notifications/gazette publications by various regulatory bodies regarding recognition of IGNOU degrees, diplomas and certificates.

IGNOU Degrees/Diplomas/Certificates are recognized by all member universities of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees/Diplomas/ Certificates of all Indian Universities/Institutions, as per UGC Circular letter No. F.1-52/2000 (CPP-II) dated 5th May, 2004, AIU Circular No. EV/11(449/94/176915- 177115 dated January 14, 1994, AICTE Circular No. AICTE/Academic/ MOU-DEC/2005 dated May 13, 2005 and UGC/DEB/2013 dated 14.10.2013.
