The Student Registration Division (SRD) of IGNOU is responsible for:

  • developing policies and procedures for admission of learners into various academic programmes offered by the University;
  • managing the processes of admission, re-registration, credit transfer etc.;
  • maintaining the database of enrolled students and providing data/reports to various stakeholders;
  • providing information and guidance to the prospective learners; and
  • assessing equivalence of degrees awarded by other Universities/Institutions for the purpose of admission in academic programmes offered by the University.

SRD envisions to serve as a Single Window Platform for all matters related to student registration, re-registration, credit transfer etc. in a simple, easy, interactive, time bound and learner friendly manner using state of the art technology and innovative processes.

  • Finalisation of Admission Prospectus;
  • Notification of new programmes for admission;
  • Release of admission notification in the leading national newspapers throughout the country;
  • Manage online/offline fresh admission;
  • Manage online/offline re-registration of students;
  • Process requests for internal and external credit transfer of courses of students;
  • Facilitate students to change elective courses, medium, programme, study centre, regional centre, name correction etc. after admission;
  • Assess equivalence of examinations and degrees of other Universities and Institutions;
  • Maintain the database of more than 3 million active students of IGNOU; and
  • Provide data/reports to various stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

To strengthen student services, SRD provides online services at IGNOU website at the weblink http://admission.ignou.ac.in/changeadmdata/admissionstatusnew.asp whereby learners can check their admission and re-registration details, status of readmission, change of elective course(s), address of the learner, credit transfer effected, study centre change and download prospectus for various programmes. For ready availability and convenience of IGNOU’s learners spread all over the country and abroad, SRD has incorporated validity period of admission in each student‘s registration in the database including readmission period. Learners can view and check the status of their registration along with name and address details at the IGNOU website. Provision has been made for Regional Centres to download scholar register from the website itself.

SRD has also uploaded on IGNOU website readmission forms, Credit transfer scheme of various programmes with prescribed pro-forma; notifications issued pertaining to equivalence/recognition granted and the notifications/gazette publications by various regulatory bodies regarding recognition of IGNOU degrees, diplomas and certificates.

Applicants are required to create their user ID and password before proceeding with IGNOU’s Online Admission system (OAS). Thereafter they can submit the online application forms along the details of Programme, Regional Centre and Study Centre chosen for the purpose. The programme fee can be paid through Credit/Debit Card/Net Banking using the online payment Gateway.

The Online Admission System provides many facilities to the students. Once the admission form is submitted online, the students can track the progress of their application. On confirmation of the admission, an SMS is sent to the mobile number of the students in addition to the email message sent on the email ID registered with the System.

The student Identity Card is generated online, which the students can download and print. We suggest that the interested applicants should carefully go through the Prospectus before submitting their application.
