The NEP Cell at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was established in November 2021 vide notification F.No.: AD/2/NA/3533 dated 30th November, 2021, in response to the directive of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to establish a dedicated NEP Cell.

Housed within the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA), the NEP Cell is entrusted with the responsibility of operationalizing various initiatives under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It plays a pivotal role in ensuring regular monitoring and evaluation of the implementation of NEP.

The Cell also facilitates institutional coordination and enhances the visibility of the implementation of NEP 2020 within the University. It serves as a key unit in aligning the University’s academic, administrative, and quality assurance frameworks with the transformative vision of NEP 2020.

The Director, CIQA is the head of the NEP Cell.
  • Facilitating the implementation of NEP 2020: Understanding the policy's various aspects and strategizing its adoption within IGNOU's distance learning framework.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensuring that the quality of education provided by IGNOU aligns with the standards envisioned by NEP 2020.
  • Curriculum Development: Overseeing the revision and development of programmes to incorporate NEP 2020 principles like multidisciplinary learning, flexibility, and skill integration.
  • Promoting Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education: Encouraging the development of programmes that break down disciplinary silos.
  • Enhancing Accessibility and Inclusivity: Working towards making education more accessible to all, in line with NEP's focus on equity.
  • Integrating Technology: Promoting the use of technology to enhance learning outcomes, as emphasized in NEP 2020.
  • Focusing on Skill Development and Employability: Aligning programmes with the evolving job market and integrating relevant skills.
